Appreciating music … with Julian Williamson
Posted 3 April | Music Tags: Farncombe Estate, Knuston Hall
“My career, over some 40 years, has been divided between work as a conductor and a lecturer. As a conductor I have directed many orchestras and choirs, giving concerts in all the main London venues, all over the country and abroad. As a lecturer my work takes in regular series of talks in London, courses for many residential colleges around Britain, and work for travel companies – for the past 10 years I have given opera talks for Saga Travel in Italy. I have always tried to make the subject matter of my courses as wide as possible, ranging from particular composers (Monteverdi to Shostakovich), through looking at styles of music (symphonies, concertos, chamber music), to investigating the influence on music of various cities or countries (Paris, London, Vienna, Venice etc). To all these I feel my work as a performer can combine with my research to give a rounded picture of the subject.”
Julian will be tutoring at ARCA Colleges Knuston Hall and Farncombe Estate in 2011.
