‘Arte Povera’

Arte Povera was an avant-garde Italian movement that made art from impoverished, discarded everyday materials. We will be making not an impoverished art, but making art with a complete openness towards materials and processes. The emphasis will be on the physical properties of materials and the transformation of the ordinary through imaginative thinking. Also, we will look at the work of 'arte povera' artists in a couple of introductory talks.

Alive Life Painting and Drawing

Wood and Stone Carving & Sculpture

This course is for all levels from complete beginners to the very experienced. Beginners learn basic skills of carving, tool sharpening and maintenance, with some design. Experienced carvers develop design and carving skills, working on their chosen projects, which may range from traditional ornament to abstract sculpture and letter cutting. Woodcarving beginners cover the whole carving component of the City and Guilds Level 1 Woodcarving Course and they have the option of registering to gain the qualification. Learners on higher C&G Woodcarving Courses may complete or begin stages. Learners may attend for one week or both. Cost of registration for City and Guilds Level 1 and certificate is £40, payable on the course.
